Bequests

You may wish to support beyondblue; the national depression initiative by making a bequest in your Will.

What is a bequest?

A bequest is a gift made legally through a Will payable to a nominated beneficiary after your death.

What is beyondblue?

Beyond Blue Ltd. is a not-for profit, charitable organisation and an Australian public company. beyondblue is working to address issues associated with depression, anxiety and related substance use disorders in Australia.

beyondblue's five priorities are:

1. increasing community awareness of depression, anxiety and related substance use disorders and addressing associated stigma;
2. providing people living with depression and their carers with information on the illness and effective treatment options and promoting their needs and experiences with policy makers and healthcare service providers;
3. developing depression prevention and early intervention programs;
4. improving training and support for GPs and other healthcare professionals on depression;
5. initiating and supporting depression-related research.

A bequest to beyondblue will help support this work.

How to make a bequest to beyondblue

We are very grateful for any bequest you may wish to provide to beyondblue. There are three options available:
* a share of your residuary estate (residuary estate is what is left of your estate after payment of debts, expenses and specific gifts)
* a percentage of your estate
* a bequest of an amount of money.

We recommend that anyone wishing to make a bequest to beyondblue seek professional legal advice before making or modifying their Will to ensure that the wording will accurately and validly record their wishes.

A general clause for the gift of a specified sum is as follows -

"I give to Beyond Blue Limited ACN 093 865 840 for its general purposes including research:

[a specified sum eg.] the sum of $ ,

free from all duties, deductions and charges to carry out the objects set out in the Constitution of Beyond Blue Limited ACN 093 865 840 (as may be amended from time to time). The receipt of the Chief Executive Officer for the time being shall be an absolute discharge to my executor."

OR

"I give to Beyond Blue Limited ACN 093 865 840 the proportion of my residuary estate and I direct that the receipt of Beyond Blue Limited be accepted as sufficient discharge for the same".

How to make a bequest to the beyondblue Depression Research Ancillary Fund Trust

You may wish instead to make a bequest to the beyondblue Depression Research Ancillary Fund Trust (the Trust). This is a charitable trust. The purpose of this Trust is:
* "to increase the quality and quantity of medical research into depression in Australia".

A clause leaving a bequest to the Trust is as follows -

"I give to the beyondblue Depression Research Ancillary Fund Trust for its purposes related to increasing the quality and quantity of medical research into depression in Australia [a specified sum eg.] the sum of $ , free from all duties, deductions and charges. The receipt of the Trustee for the time being of the Trust shall be an absolute discharge to my executor."

In whatever form, a bequest to either Beyond Blue Ltd. or the beyondblue Depression Research Ancillary Fund Trust is an enduring way to help reduce the prevalence and impact of depression in the Australian community and to increase the quality and quantity of medical research into depression.
