Symptom Checklists Outcome measures for health professionals
There are a number of outcome measures that can help health professionals assess for depression, anxiety and related disorders.
AUDITis a screening instrument for problem drinking. It is a 10 item self report measure of alcohol intake, dependence and adverse consequences.
AUDIT-C is a brief (3 item) self report measure of alcohol consumption, useful for general practice screening. If respondents are positive on this, it may be informative to do the full AUDIT.
DASS21 is 21 item self report instrument measuring symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress.
Demoralisation scale is a 24 item self report measure of demoralisation, a form of depression characterized by feelings of helplessness and hopelessness.
GAD 7 is a 7 item self report measure of symptoms of anxiety.
K10 is a 10 item self report measure of distress - symptoms of depression and anxiety.
PHQ 9 is a self report measure of depression containing items representing the 9 criteria of DSM-IV Major Depressive Disorder.
PHQ 15 is a self report measure of somatisation or somatic symptom severity. The items represent 15 common symptoms experienced by general practice patients.
SPHERE 12 is a 12 item version of the SPHERE instrument measuring psychological distress (depression and anxiety 6 items) and somatic distress (fatigue, sleep, pain, concentration; 6 items).
