NewAccess Workplaces

Each day many of us are tackling challenges in our work and personal life, contributing to feelings such as unhappiness, stress or worry. If this sounds familiar, NewAccess workplaces might be right for you. NewAccess will provide mental health coaching, using Low intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, with your dedicated coach for up to 6 sessions.

This program is available only for employees of participating APS agencies. Please check with your agency if you are unsure about your eligibility.

NewAccess workplaces is not a crisis service. If you are in an emergency, or at immediate risk of harm to yourself or others, please call 000.

Program structure

You'll meet with your coach for up to 6 sessions over 6 weeks. Your coach will then talk to you about booking follow up sessions to check in on your progress.

Session 1 - Initial assessment

At your first session with your coach you'll:
  • talk through your challenges - choosing one or two issues to focus on

  • develop a problem statement - defining exactly what the issues are

  • create a plan based on your needs - including practical actions to tackle the issues

  • complete outcome measures

  • start coaching.

If you need different support than what NewAccess can offer, your coach will help you find a more appropriate service.

Five weekly sessions – up to 30 minutes

Each week you’ll work with your NewAccess coach to review your progress and work through your planned actions.

Your coach will give you practical activities to complete between sessions.

At your final session, your coach will help you decide whether you need to seek more support. Around 30% of people who complete NewAccess may need more support. This could include talking to your GP or seeing a psychologist.

Online and phone delivery because we know you’re busy

You can complete the program remotely from anywhere in Australia by phone or video call. Sessions with your coach can be booked between Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm (AEST). The program is closed on public holidays.

Measurable results

At each session you’ll review your progress with your mental health coach so you can see how you’re tracking. 7 out of 10 people who participate in NewAccess report a significant reduction in symptoms of anxiety and depression.

What is the difference between NewAccess and an EAP?

NewAccess and EAP offer distinct approaches to supporting individuals facing psychological challenges.

NewAccess provides a structured early intervention consisting of six mental health coaching sessions with the same coach, empowering individuals with practical tools and monitoring progress closely through outcome measures. Rooted in an evidence-based service framework and LiCBT treatment guide, NewAccess ensures a safe, effective and focused approach towards achieving tangible results.

In contrast, EAP usually focuses on immediate stress reduction with an Allied Health clinician (often a counsellor or psychologist rather than a coach), traditionally after issues have snowballed.
